After a March 17 fire burned their home to the ground and
the Gillespie family are working to pick up the pieces and
put their lives back together.
Family members have no insurance to assist them in
recovering from their loss.
To make matters more difficult, the family is running into
bureaucratic roadblocks and red tape at nearly every turn.
Apparently the family is having trouble finding places to
dispose of the remains of the burned-out residence,
complying with strict regulations regarding temporary living
quarters and the rebuilding the burned-out home.

Kern County’s unemployment rate
jumped to 14.7 percent in February,
surpassing both the state and national
jobless rate. Ridgecrest in comparison recorded its highest job loss in
nine years, but fared better than other cities in our county.
At an 8.4-percent employment rate,  Ridgecrest has more people
working on average  than do Bakersfield, Tehachapi  or California City,
according to the latest California Development Department statistics.
