Red Rock Canyon State Park Supervisor Kathy Weatherman will speak to the Sierra Club about the park’s
current status and plans for the future Monday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m. at Maturango Museum.

Retired Teachers to meet Thursday
The Ridgecrest Satellite of the California Retired Teachers’ Association will meet  Thursday, Nov. 19, at 3 p.
m. in Conference Room A of the Sierra Sands School District Office, 137 Felspar Ave.  
Featured speaker will be Barbara Glesen, in-home care coordinator for the Senior Services of Indian Wells
Valley. Glesen will explain the various services available from her enterprise and will be available to answer
questions.  
All retired teachers are invited to attend meetings and are urged to join the organization, which is the only
lobby that protects the interest of retired teachers in the state.

Democrats to meet Nov. 28
The Democrats of the High Desert will host their Nov. 28 Saturday brunch at the Texas Cattle Co., 1400 N.
Norma St., at 10:30 a.m. John Anderson from Habitat for Humanity will speak and answer questions about
the organization.
“We have lively discussions and share our hopes,” said a spokesperson. No RSVPs are necessary.
Christmas Parade entries sought
The Ridgecrest Elks Lodge invites everyone to participate in the 40th annual Children’s Christmas Parade,
Saturday, Dec. 12, starting at 10 a.m.
This year’s theme is “A Harvest of Dreams.”                                         The parade route begins at the corner of
Norma Street and Las Flores Avenue, goes south to Ridgecrest Boulevard., then east to Balsam Street, then
north on Balsam Street back to Las Flores.
The parade is noncompetitive. All entrants will receive ribbons.
Participant entry forms are available at the Ridgecrest Elks Lodge No. 1913, 201 E. Church Ave., or by mail.
Each entrant will be requested to pay a $10 fee. This year equestrian entries must again show evidence of
liability insurance.
The deadline for all entries is Dec. 5.

Track Club to hold Turkey Trot
The Over the Hill Track Club will host its annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving Day.  The race will start and
finish at the Cerro Coso Community College parking lot.  
Sign ups will be from 7:30-8 a.m., with the race starting at 8:30.  
There is a $1 entry fee for individuals or a $5 fee for a family of 5 or more.  The flat 5K course is run on dirt
roads above the college. The coveted rubber chickens will be awarded to the first-place male and first-place
female finishers.
Two gift certificates for $25 will be raffled off.  
Organizers point out that this race is an excellent way to train for the upcoming High Desert Ultra and to start
Thanksgiving dinner with a calorie deficit.

the community twice a year, with only a small amount retained by WACOM for operating expenses. The
presentation was made at WACOM’s Nov. 10 meeting at the Paradise Community Center. The Thrift Shop,
located between Blandy Avenue and King Street at 1809 Lauritsen Ave. on the base, is open Monday
through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon except for major holidays. The organization has recently opened a
boutique, which is open Tuesdays from 9 am.to noon.
