 Hello again, Ridgecrest.  The students of Burroughs High School have returned from their two-week
Christmas break, and they are now into finals week.  
 This is the last week of the semester, and Wednesday we have second- and third-period finals,
Thursday we have fourth- and fifth -period finals, and Friday we have six- and seventh-period finals.  
 The class periods will be two hours long each, and the students will be released at 11:55 a.m. each of
these days.
 Thursday we have boys’ basketball games at Burroughs with freshmen starting at 3 p.m.  Friday the
boys’ soccer team plays Granite Hills at home, while girls’ soccer and basketball will travel to Granite
Hills to play there.

   Scott Williams of the U.S. Forest Service will present “Fires Over
Time in the Southern Sierra Nevada” Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 7:30 p.
m. at the Maturango Museum, as part of the museum’s continuing
lecture series.
  Lightning fires and fires set by Native Americans played a
significant role in shaping and maintaining mountain forest
ecosystems in the southern Sierra Nevada for thousand of years.  
  More than 100 years ago, European settlers began suppressing
natural fires, and that evolved into the large fire suppression
organizations we have today.
