Ridgecrest at the Regional Search for Talent in Bakersfield May 1. Shane Maurer, center left, took the
Sweepstakes trophy in the Junior Division with his performance of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Flight of the
Bumble Bee” on the flute. Samantha Farris was second runner-up in the Primary Division with a vocal
performance, and Andy Konopak was first runner-up in the Senior Division with a vocal/guitar
performance. Maurer will advance in the competition, performing at the district level next month in Irvine.
