Police warn residents of phone scam
Over the past few weeks the Ridgecrest Police Department has documented several telephone scam
occurrences and would like to make citizens aware of the scam.
The scenario has been a male subject contacting citizens likely to have grandchildren. The caller greets the
citizen and says he is his or her grandson.
The caller tells the citizen he has been arrested in or near Canada and needs $5,000 for bail. The caller
explains a fictitious criminal charge and tells the citizen how to send the bail money via Western Union.
If you receive a call like this please contact family members to ensure that they are not actually in need of
assistance.
